Statement of Values
2008 Emerging Leaders on the steps of Holly KnollWe believe that people of high character, integrity, intellect and faith must be at the table of ideas, resolving the complex problems facing our communities, our country and our world. Therefore, while we are governed by our faith in Jesus Christ, which informs our decisions, empowers our resolve, encourages our diversity, and invites inclusiveness and differing opinions, we welcome the opportunity to dialogue with those from other faith communities about the important issues of the day.

We Believe that people of good will, regardless of race, sex, religion, national origin, or party affiliation, can indeed come together as one to solve the great concerns of our day.

We Believe that we are called, as those who stand on the shoulders of our forefathers, to leave a legacy of faith and ideas to those Mrs. James speaking to a group of students gathered for Sunday Dinnerwho follow us in this quest for liberty and freedom.

We Further Believe that many Americans are ready to set aside labels of Republicans, Democrats and Independents, liberals, conservatives and libertarians to instead be labeled solutionists dedicated to developing real answers to real problems.

We Do Not Believe in questioning ethnicity or intent, stifling dialogue or debate, or feeling helpless in the face of significant issues. We look to struggles of The Civil Rights Movement to know that good people working arm and arm can not only go to the mountain, but that together they can move it.

Sepia Holly KnollTherefore, We Are Resolved in our commitment to provide an intellectually safe environment where ideas can be discussed and transformed into practical solutions that produce results, to provide a peaceful place to restore and refresh leaders, and to train and nurture emerging leaders.

We Recommit Ourselves to the challenge issued by the Rev. Martin Luther King in 1968 in Memphis:

“Let us rise up tonight with a greater readiness. Let us stand with a greater determination. And let us move on in these powerful days, these days of challenge to make America what it ought to be. We have an opportunity to make America a better nation.”
